Dirty Secrets

I don't know about the rest of you out there (are there any of you out there?), but I have secrets.  Yes, some are deep, dark secrets that I would not reveal here on a blog.  Some are just plain ridiculous.  I was reminded of some as I walked across campus today, looking at the "young folk".  Here are some of my more amusing (or not so much) secrets:

  • I watch "All My Children".  I used to watch it when I was in college the first time, then got away from it when "real life" started.  Then someone (who shall remain nameless) got me back into it, and with the advent of DVR, it is possible to never miss a minute.  And guess what?  Erica is still there causing trouble.  Yup, she has had a few more hubbies, but she's still there!
  • I smoked marijuana when I was younger.  Big deal.  I gave it up when I found myself sitting in my apartment alone with a blanket over my head in the corner wondering who was trying to break into my house.  Seemed a tad extreme at that point to pay for dope to be scared out of mind.  Can you say paranoid?  Oh, and I was always under the blanket wondering if I could order pizza to satisfy my munchies without freaking out when the delivery guy got there.  So I just gave it up for wine.  Easier to get, less side effects.  I'm nothing if not practical.
  • I have been known to listen to both ABBA and Vivaldi in the same sitting.  I see no incongruity in this.  I would also listen to disco and Led Zeppelin together, given a chance.  (although I draw the line at opera and jazz)
  • Cold pizza and hot coffee are one of my favorite breakfasts.  This is something I learned in college and I've never forgotten.
  • I like to say curse words.  I have to monitor my language around people I don't know very well.  It's a curse.
  • I startle very easily.  If you sneak up behind me, I'm liable to scream loudly.  My friends love this and take advantage of it often.  I'm not amused.
  • "The Sound of Music" is my favorite musical.  If I'm feeling down, a rousing rendition of the "The Lonely Goatherd" usually picks up my spirits.  I think is has something to do with serotonin or endorphins or something.  Ask Julie Andrews - she would know.
  • Lace itches.  Enough said.
Enough secrets for now.  For the record, I've also given up wine.  And meat.  And lots of other things.  But we'll talk about that later.
