Therapy by Blog

I recently reconnected with one of my old college roommates on Facebook and she has connected me with a bunch of women that lived on the floor of the dorm that we lived in at the University of Cincinnati.  It sure has brought back a bunch of memories that are fun, crazy, and wild.  I really appreciate that because right now some of what is going on back in Ohio with my family is not fun because my father is so ill with various age ailments.  So any memories that take me back to a better day are really appreciated.

I guess that is what life is all about - the juxtaposition of the emotional roller coaster experiences that are from the past and present that bring happy and sad to my brain.  From one minute to the next, I'm not sure how I am feeling.  It's like the election results:  the joy of knowing how progressive the country has become by electing a bi-racial man, but at the same time we take rights away by passing Proposition 8.  I still want smooth waters, and I think they simply don't exist.  Life is all about ups and downs.  Maybe that's why I sit in a chair and watch TV.  It's easy and smooth.  I think I am performing "therapy by blog."  Is there such a thing?  I think I may have just invented it.

Back to college memories.  We had some fun times in the dorm.  And I could party hard and still get up the next day do what I needed to do.  Those days are gone.  I remember selling my blood plasma for beer money.  You could do it twice a week, it took two hours, and I could study while they did it.  I also remember our dorm sorority Koppa Koppa Buzz.  We had special flannel shirts that we made up with KKB over the pockets.  We also used to watch Lawrence Welk after getting "inspired" (think about what that means).  Larry and his gang were absolutely hysterical with the proper preparation on our part.  I also remember having a contraband gerbil in a clear exercise ball that managed to get on the elevator and roll down to the front desk to the surprise of the front desk clerk.  Those were the days.

Believe it or not, we did manage to study and eventually graduate.  What a relief it was to graduate.  Little did we realize that real life after college was going to be as challenging as it is.
