Obsession
Do you remember those Calvin Klein commercials where they would whisper "obsession" and you just wanted to run to the store and get whatever those beautiful people had all over those beautiful bodies? I remember it. I am currently obsessed. I'm not sure I should tell you what the object of my obsession is. No, it isn't my new laptop, although it is pretty spiffy. It is very fast, but it really was a pain to get set up. I spent the better part of Thanksgiving weekend trying to get all of my software up and functioning, and I'm still not completely there. But that's another whole story.
No, I am currently obsessed with getting registered for school. You see, I am in a perfect Catch-22. I have a bachelor's degree, so I don't have to take all of the general education classes to qualify for the program I want to take according to the guidelines of the community college that I am attending. But because I haven't taken all of the general education classes at this college, I don't rank high enough in the registration priority to get into the classes that I need. So I'm going to go to see a counselor and a professor next week and do a little talking (interpretation: begging) to see how to get into those classes. It's all very interesting to say the least. Apparently I'm too educated to get an education. I'm hoping that I won't have to get more general education in order to get more specific education (in my chosen major). Does any of this make sense? I'm not sure that it makes sense to me. I not only have a bachelor's degree, but over 25 years professional experience, including teaching in a corporate environment. So, I just want to take a class. That's all I'm asking. But right now I'm at the same priority level as a just-out-of-high-school-freshman. Well, I guess we all gotta start somewhere. But I'm really obsessing about this, and it isn't necessarily a good thing.
Okay, one more thing I'm obsessing about. I've recently discovered Facebook. It's kind of fun being out there and connecting with a whole bunch of friends. It's just like school, racing around trying to see who can get the most amount of friends. Next I think I'll try to conquer MySpace. Yippee! It makes me feel so young.
